Beginning To Become Psychic
Long before I went back to Social Work School at Boston University to become a clinical social worker, I discovered that I had psychic abilities. Long before I became a Junior High School English Teacher in the late l960’s, I knew I had psychic ability.
With help and encouragement from a couple well-known psychics, including Ramona Garcia and the late Herb Dewey, I began to learn how to do readings in the late 1970’s and early 80’s.
That was also around the time I entered BUSSW to earn my MSW. The two tracks, psychic and psychologic have always intrigued me. The intersection of the two is particularly exciting for me, because where intuition meets mental health, I have found and do believe there is strength to cope more effectively with life’s demands.
Since I discovered the power of the mind that exists at that crossroads of the intellect and the intuition, I have dedicated much of my career to helping people discover and develop these tools within themselves. Everyone possesses these capacities. The extent to which people recognize and/or use these talents varies from person to person.
Over the years, doing psychic readings has been a favorite pastime for me. I have offered readings on a professional one to one basis to many individuals. I have also used intuition along with diagnostic formulations, based on carefully thought through clinical assessments, to create treatment plans for my patients.
I have never professed to be a fortune teller even when people have wanted me to tell them what lay ahead. I could not tell you the daily number, and I definitely refuse to be a doomsday seer. I don’t pick up those energies. What I “see,” or more accurately “sense,” are impressions about the person and a clairsentience (clear knowing) about who they are, what has gone on, what is going on, and what might go on in their lives.
As a social worker, I subscribe to the notion of self-determination that is a foundation of social work values. Sometimes I call this the “Ebenezer Scrooge” phenomenon. The ghost of Christmas future showed Scrooge shades of what might be, not what had to be. Scrooge got to decide how he wanted to deal with his life and his people. The ghost basically taught Scrooge that behavior leads to consequences. While we cannot always guarantee that we will get what we want, we can decide how to behave, knowing that certain behaviors are likely to serve up certain responses and consequences.
I present my readings with these ideas in mind. I will give you lots of information. You will have fun. You will find it intriguing and hopefully helpful. But--ultimately you get to choose how you want to be and what you want to do. My readings most always pick up some facts and some ideas that are important to my subject; However, as Herb Dewey taught me years ago--there can be twenty important things about your subject and two readers will pick up ten different ones. Reading is an art to be sure; but it is one that uses skills that can be taught and developed by anyone. As a practicing psychic I am often considered by my clients to have some special power that they don’t have. While it may be true that I have a larger dose of fascination with this topic than some, you possess the same ability to use intuition and be your own “reader.”
The only aspect doing readings that I find concerning is that often those being read for are ready and willing to suspend their own self-determination and judgment for the insights brought forth by the reader. I call this the “tell-me-what-I-should-do” phenomenon. Because of this, I believe doing a reading for another person is a huge responsibility and must be done with great respect and caution not to assume that a reader knows what is better for you than you do. The best psychics guide. Sometimes Herb would say that he “Blew their socks off” with information he picked up. Once in a while socks fly off in my readings too. But while that is really a fun part of this, it is just that--fun.
Of course there can be valuable information contained in a psychic consultation, as well as helpful perspectives on a situation, but I believe that a reading is best utilized when it helps you to think through a difficult circumstance by presenting a new angle or an awareness into yourself that you had not thought of before. I like to offer a new view on something that might help you to solve a problem or see a pathway to your own inner nature. However, remember this--For dealing with life, you have great potential within yourself for finding proper direction and peaceful living when you follow the guidance from your own inner psychic Self.
The difference between you and me is practice and development, and more practice.
The answer to the often asked question, “How do you do it?” is this--Psychic ability is a potential within everyone. Functioning as a psychic reader is only one way to use this ability, and I do not recommend it for everyone. In order to know what pertains to another person, one must have a very exquisite and deep understanding of Self. I have carefully chosen the few individuals I have trained to be readers, as I believe that to do psychic readings requires that one be on a very committed path to be mentally health at the same time.
I prefer to help people use their psychic ability to help themselves. The use of psychic ability is another way of looking at the mind-body connection that has attracted so much attention in the past two decades and is now a fairly mainstream concept. The power in the quieted mind is great. Accessing intuitive information for guidance, healing and peace is now an accepted phenomenon. Of course this also works best when combined with self discovery some mentally healthy route. By using your own psychic ability you will be better able to set goals, solve problems, heal bodily discomfort (sometimes even dis-ease) and navigate more effectively through the challenges of everyday life.
Ironically, it is very simple to begin to experience what can seem to be a very complex phenomenon--developing psychic nature. Would you like to try?
First you will begin with quieting the mind to block out interference the busy world outside. You can do this by taking a few deep breaths and then continuing rhythmic and normal breathing. Don’t worry about the mind not being truly quiet. Ironically, even in a “quiet” mind, thoughts will come in. All you need to do is just notice them without trying to do something about them. Let them come and go, go and come. You can sit or lie down. Pick a spot that you find comfortable and peaceful. You can stand if you prefer.
Now, just rest. If there are problems in your life that need solving, you can consider them, but do your best not to wrestle with them. Only pay attention to what your mind offers you. Later you can give some analytical attention to this information. Thoughts and pictures will come in. Let them pass through. You don’t need to try to stop them or to grab them. You don’t need to push them away. Understanding meanings and relationships between the psychic impressions and the issues of your life will take some practice. You can seek out a qualified psychic or a therapists who understands this dimension of mind to help you sort out your impressions. You can also talk to a trusted friend or faith leader. It takes practice to combine the intuitive with the practical. But if you keep at it, you will find it is a great help in your life.
To begin your psychic development practice, use this short meditation everyday. Seek out other forms of meditation, prayer and mind quieting methods as you learn how to go inside. Then practice using your logical mind to understand what you’ve been given, What you will find in the inner dimension of your own mind will surprise you, amaze and inspire you and lead you to answers.
